National RISE Projects

The Department of Health has given Regenerate-RISE £50,000 a year for three years to initiate RISE in four other cities across the UK and a further project in London.  The cities we are looking to provide a service to are:

We are currently in the process of researching the needs in each of these cities, identifying areas which could benefit from a RISE project and networking with key organisations and individuals. This is necessary in order to prevent duplication and to identify gaps in provision for older people.

Our first new RISE project will be in the Greenford/Northolt/Perivale area in the borough of Ealing, West London. An Advisory Committee has been set up to lead RISE Greenford and the aim is to provide an outreach service through local volunteers as well as a day care service providing activities, outings and a full support programme.  We are pleased to have developed strong links with St Joseph the Worker Church of England/Dovetail centre, Northolt who are already engaged in supporting older people. We plan to be able to build on this excellent existing work and hope very much that significant progress will have been made by the end of 2009. We will be looking to recruit new members of staff, which will include a RISE Co-ordinator, and a further part time staff member.  We expect the service to be able to provide services for at least three days a week eventually  and look to give a range of activities including chair based exercises, health related topics, hearing aid clinics, social activities such as Bingo, indoor bowling, dancing, entertainment and will enjoy hot nutritious lunches.  There will be a programme of outings to local places of interest and we aim to reduce the isolation of many elderly residents across this area.   Regenerate-RISE will be making a DVD of our work to encourage local Churches, agencies and organisations within the above areas to get involved in reaching out to the isolated elderly in their communities.  Jeremy Sharpe, our National RISE Co-ordinator  and Mo Smith, Chair of Trustees are both liaising with the local authority and PCT in the area as Regenerate-RISE expects to get referrals from local Social Workers, hospitals, GPs and Primary Care Trust workers.

Nottingham Town Centre

"We are looking forward to improving the lives of at least 1000 older people through these projects over the next three years" commented Mo Smith, Chair of Trustees, "The opportunity to take what we have learnt in South West London to other parts of the country has been amazing and we hope that at the end of the three years, we will be able to look at other areas across the UK".  Regenerate-RISE has produced a national strategic document and we are also producing a regular newsletter to give updates on our work across the UK.  Please click here for a copy of the latest newsletter and for a copy of the three year strategy please click here.  If you would like any further information or are interested in working with us on setting up a new RISE project in any of the above areas, please do not hesitate to contact us

Andy Wilson from RISE Greenford will be making a DVD on the work of RISE in South-West London to promote the work of RISE across the UK.  If you would like a copy, please email jeremysharpe@regenerate-rise.co.uk and he will forward you a copy as soon as it is completed.
